Titre | Auction for telecom frequencies: 2.8 billion euros for the state |
|
||
Description | The two 5 MHz frequency blocks were sold before the end of the second session of the process, says Le Monde. The price of each block was initially set at 451 million euros by the State and increased by five million every round of betting. Prices would eventually mounted up to 466 million euros per lot. Orange and Free got two lots each, SFR and Bouygues one. The state will have reached nearly 2.8 billion euros, more than the 2.5 billion it had set. Long distance and frequencies that penetrate buildings Orange and Free will, for example minimum each pay 932 million euros, not including network deployment costs. Free, last entered the market, was the only one to qualify for three lots. But the bill would probably have been too salty for the operator. The "golden frequencies" 700 MHz are highly coveted because they have the advantage to spread over long distances and therefore require less antennae and can cross the concrete and penetrate inside buildings. They should therefore solve many network problems. Until then, this part of the radio spectrum is used by TNT. It will gradually pass into the hands of the operators, between 1 December 2015 and 1 July 2019. |
